As I said earlier, today was probably the best day of my whole life, because today, I met my hero.
I went to Skate and Surf thinking that I wouldn’t get to meet Frank, due to the tweet on the DeathSpells account announcing that there would be no meet and greet, but here is the story of how I did:
After DeathSpells had finished playing, I ran to the back of the stage, to try and say hi to Frank. But caught by security, I as well as several other fans were told to move back. As I was being pushed back, I screamed Frank’s name and waved to him, hoping he would at least notice me. Lo and behold, he did, and with a huge grin, he waved back. This was when I began to cry, and when I say cry, I here mean sob uncontrollably. The fact that Frank Iero, my inspiration and hero just looked at me, and waved to me, made me feel like bursting into a billion pieces.
The security guard continued to try and push me back, but through my tears, I told him I was not moving until I could see Frank (and looking back I realize how childish that sounds). Anyway, Frank called over the security guard, and he motioned for him to hold us back, and that he would be leaving for a moment. I had a feeling he would be coming back, so I decided to wait for a few minutes. Of course, he returned, and told security that he would like to meet all the people that were waiting here for him.
One by one, he gave hugs, and signatures, etc… and there I was, waiting my turn, still sobbing. I finally got up to him, and before I could even ask for a hug, he pulled me in for one, and rubbed my back a little. As he was hugging me, he said “Sh, it’s okay just relax, I’m right here.” He signed the small piece of paper I held in my hand, and the security guard was quick to tell me “sorry, but no pictures.” Before I walked away, I told Frank the one thing I thought I would never be able to.
“Frank, you’re my hero, and you saved my life, thank you so much.”
Again, I started to sob, thinking this moment would never come. He grabbed me again for another hug, rested his head on my shoulder, and said, “It means so much to me that I could do that for you, so thank you! Everything’s going to be okay, I promise.”
I walked away from him, and I had never been so happy in my entire life.
Frank Iero has done so much for me, and helped me through things that some of you couldn’t even imagine. Having the chance to meet him today was a life changing experience. I can’t thank him enough.
